Installation instructions for the 1949 FN – AUTO

To install your new insta-mount on the 1949 FN, simply remove the housing over the bolt at the rear of the receiver on your firearm. The S&K Insta-mount then slides into its place. Bolt the rear plate in place with the (2) 8-32 x 1/2 screws, making sure the spring is properly placed.

Now lock the mount base in place by putting the (4) 10-32 x 1/4 pointed set screws into the holes in the top of the mount (single holes) and tightening. DO NOT over tighten. The side wall of the mount by the screw will bulge out if you are too tight. Move the bolt in & out. If the bolt seems like it slides hard, then loosen one of the top front pointed set screws. If the bolt is still tight then retighten the pointed set screw & loosen the one on the opposite side.

Repeat this process until you find the pointed set screw/screws causing the problem. Almost always the problem is with one of the two front screws. When you find the screw that is causing the bolt to stick, replace the pointed set screw with one of the (2) 10-32 x 5/16 cup point set screws provided. CAUTION: you can replace only one pointed set screw in the front & if necessary one in the rear because your mount is held from shifting sideways with the pointed screws. What has caused this problem is the mount needs some clearance sideways & the set screws sometimes aren’t centered over the flat area on the receiver.

Before inserting the pointed set screws into the mount look down into the holes & center the mount holes over the flat area of the receiver as best as you can. This sometimes helps.
Mount the steel ring risers into the two slots on top of the mount with the10-32 x ½ flat head screws, then put the scope rings in place on top. Follow accepted practice in sighting in and the job is done.
